Fruit Custard

It is a light and refreshing Panjabi dessert from the vibrant homes of Panjab, made with milk, custard and fresh fruits. This dish is creamy, chilled and perfect for summer days in the UK, offering a sweet and cooling treat after meals. It is usually served cold and loved by all age groups.

*****INGREDIENTS*****
  • 2 cups full-fat milk
    2 tbsp custard powder (vanilla)
    3 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
    ½ cup apples (chopped)
    ½ cup bananas (sliced)
    ½ cup grapes
    ½ cup mango (chopped, seasonal)
    ½ cup pomegranate seeds

For Garnish
  • Chopped nuts (optional)
  • A few cherries (optional)
*****INSTRUCTIONS*****
  1. Heat milk in a pan and bring it to a gentle boil.

  2. In a small bowl, mix custard powder with a little cold milk to remove lumps.

  3. Add this mixture to the boiling milk and stir continuously until it thickens.

  4. Add sugar and mix well. Cook for another 2–3 minutes.

  5. Turn off the heat and let the custard cool completely.

  6. Refrigerate for 1–2 hours until chilled.

  7. Add all chopped fruits to the chilled custard and mix gently.

  8. Garnish with nuts or cherries if desired.

  9. Serve cold for a refreshing and delicious Panjabi dessert from Panjab.
